On Wednesday, January 29, President Donald Trump signed the first bill of his administration. (Associated Press, 2025) Laken Riley was a nursing student from Georgia who was killed while out for a run on February 22, 2024. The man accused of her murderer, an illegal immigrant from Mexico, was arrested, tried, and then convicted in November 2024.

Many news outlets covered this story, with her name and photo broadcast daily. You would be hard-pressed to find anyone who doesn't know her name and her story.
But can you answer the following questions: How many other women can you name who were murdered since Laken Riley's tragic death?
In fact, how many people can you name (men or women) who were murdered?
Did you know that in 2023 alone, 17,713 people (13,789 men, 3,849 women, and 75 whose gender was unknown) were murdered in the United States? (Statistica, 2025) Did you know that in prior to December 18, 2024, 165 people died in the United States in mass killings? (US News, 2024) Do you know any of their names?
This is a shining example of how the United States is controlling the narrative. One woman's tragic death has been politicized and sensationalized to spark fear among US citizens, while hundreds, even thousands, are simply left out of the media. We have to stop taking headlines at face value. We have to dig deeper. We have to be more discerning. We have to be better.
Hi Jess, we just met tonight. You impressed me with your Happiness and with the way you full heartedly treat others. The dude my partner was speaking to, I believe it was someone you know, he did not impress me except for one thing - he listened. He listened and when he heard something he never heard before he said he would research it. Whether he will still not believe it even when he witnesses our US Ambassador to the UN speak the words, "America sides with Russia", I do not know. Change one mind, according to facts, not videotape or hearsay - FACTS - and you've changed the world.
